These days, every Instagram bio has “sneakerhead” in it, and truthfully, it can be hard to spot the real among the fake. However, Dominican-bred New Jersey native Beatriz Guerrero is as authentic as they come.
As a young 20-something trying to soak up the ins and outs of fashion, Guerrero got her start as a production assistant in the wardrobe department for FOX’s Gotham and CBS’ Bull. She also worked alongside well-known costume designer and stylist, helping style celebrities for red carpet events, magazine covers and music videos. “Learning the business from a great mentor made everything fun and raw,” Guerrero tells her sweat.
But before stepping her way into more star-studded arenas, growing up in the ‘hood helped Guerrero find her fashion palette, especially for footwear. She pulled inspiration from “guys wearing Air Forces and hoodies” and paired it with knowledge of the burgeoning culture of high fashion-meets-streetwear. Once she started working at Footaction as a teen, her affinity for sneakers kicked off and the rest is #KOTD history. “The love I saw in people’s eyes on Saturday mornings when a fresh pair of Jordan Retros were released started it all for me,” she says. “I got my first pair of J’s at 16 for $89. Eleven years later, I still own that pair and about 200 more.”
As she began attending college in New York City, she experienced a whole new culture of fashion and brands that inspired her everyday style, which is defined by three C’s: classics, comfort and collaborations. “When it comes to sneakers, I tend to be a minimalist,” says Guerrero. “I love classic silhouettes like the Nike AF1 and the classic shell-toe Adidas, but I’m not limited to one brand or design. I’m also a huge fan of partnerships between high-end brands like Y-3, Rick Owens and Ricardo Tisci and Nike, Adidas and Asics. The perfect blend between high-end chic and street is what my style is all about.”
With a heap of experience under her belt, the self-taught seamstress and natural-born style junkie—she consumes every detail of runway trends, celeb looks and designer news—is readying her own fashion collection debut. “I’ve been working on designing my own street style clothing line for a while. Once I release that I feel like people will really see who I am and what my fashion stands for.”
Given Guerrero’s expertise on all things style and sneakers, her sweat. had to get the scoop on her go-to kicks, the most slept-on sneaks and how we should be rocking our everyday athletic footwear.
What are the top 3 running sneakers to pair with everyday looks?
Adidas Ultra Boost in all colors! Can’t go wrong but my favorite is the triple white. You can literally wear them with anything from dresses to jeans to skirts.
The Nike Air Presto is definitely in my top 2 right now, too. A lot of people think it came out after the Adidas Boost but it was actually released in 2000. It’s the most stylish running sneaker Nike has in my opinion. They have unlimited amounts of colors and they’re super comfortable. I love how my jeans fall on these sneakers, makes you look stylish even when you’re not trying to be.
Last but not least, I’m obsessed with the Nike FlyKnits in Oreo (black and white). They are so comfortable and perfect for running, and the design is so chic that I can wear them with whatever I have on.
How can a non-sneakerhead step up their shoe game without being a hypebeast?
Stepping up your shoe game is all about patience and knowing what your style is. You don’t need to buy every single sneaker released. Plus, that would be insane unless you have the means. Slowly and steadily build your collection. Sneakers are all about how they make you feel. Finding a pair of sneakers and finding the perfect fit for them legit makes my soul happy. I know I sound a little drastic but it’s the truth. Hypebeasts buy sneakers to impress social media or even resell. There’s no real love for it.
What’s an athletic sneaker every fit girl should have in their closet for running and everyday wear?
No doubt in my mind, every girl should have the triple white Adidas Ultra Boost. It’s simple but so stylish. That sneaker can literally turn any outfit into a showstopper.
What’s a pair of running kicks a woman should never actually run in?
I’ve seen people run in Yeezy Boosts. It breaks my heart to see them used for running because they’re so difficult to find. Even though it’s a running shoe with a boost sole and everything, just don’t.

What’s the most slept-on fly running shoe out right now?
The Asics Gel-Kayano. People have been sleeping on Asics for years but it’s truly one of the most stylish sneakers. KITH owner and designer Ronnie Fieg has brought a lot of attention back to Asics with his collabs, I feel like once Asics drops running shoes with more moderate colors, people will start to really notice their running sneakers for fashion.
What’s one way you want women to stop rocking running sneakers with outfits?
I don’t see any limits when it comes to women wearing running shoes, but just know that all running shoes are not for all occasions. Some sneakers you can wear with dresses and some you simply have to keep them in your closet just for workouts like Nike Air Maxes or Under Armour sneakers.
