This Woman’s Work: Gabrielle Union-Wade’s Chiseled Physique

For the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscars After-Party, Gabrielle Union-Wade caused jaws to drop as she stepped onto the red carpet clad in a revealing Jean Paul-Gautlier high-split gown. The 44-year-old actress slipped her svelte figure into the “half gown, half bikini”, flaunting her toned leg, midriff and glowing skin. Union’s risqué dress choice garnered a bevy of mixed comments but most of all, left many of us wondering how?! And where the hell do we sign up?

Splitting her time between filming shows Being Mary Jane and The Lion Guard, cheering on her baller husband Dwyane Wade, fronting her own New York and Company collection and preparing her first memoir, We’re Going to Need More Wine (out October 2017), Gab Union still finds more than a few hours during her busy schedule to hit the gym to maintain her chiseled figure and youthful appearance. “I have a family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, and I know that can lead to an early death,” Union revealed during her Women’s Health magazine February cover shoot. “I work out not because I get off on it, but because I want to live!”

A couple that trains together, slays together. 

When they’re not on Instagram displaying their affection for each other, or Gabrielle isn’t throwing a few light-hearted jabs at her husband on Twitter, you can head on over to Gab’s Snapchat to watch The Wades go beast mode in the gym (Gabrielle even added a basketball skill to her workout routine). Tandem workouts can motivate each partner to push through and allows you to share an interest and/or goal with your SO. When your husband has razor sharp abs, it’s only right that you have to match as well… right?


Learn how to say no… a lot!

According to Union, it’s okay to take your time away from something or someone and devote it to yourself. “My best anti-aging tip is the ability to say no, no, and hell, no. We run ourselves ragged saying yes to every freaking thing, whether it’s to our family, spouses, or careers,” she told Women’s Health mag. “A lot of people call it selfish, but I don’t have any wrinkles.”

Challenge yourself to try new exercises.

Growth begins through discomfort. The only way to truly grow is through continuous effort and challenging yourself to explore new workout methods. Union’s intense workouts often incorporate challenging exercises that target her “lady lumps” thanks to her trainer Keisy Myumi.

“Squats…Mo Squats”

Thanks to Instagram, squats are known more for what they can do for your glutes instead of how much stronger and chiseled they can make your legs look. Gabrielle Union’s leg game is strong due to her squat game being just as fierce. If you got it, flaunt it!

Work hard, play hard, then workout harder!

Indulging in some of your favorite meals doesn’t have to set you back as long as your prepared to go even harder during your next sweat session. Gabrielle’s weekly hashtag “#foodiefriday” gives her followers a glimpse into the meals (and recipes) both she and Dwyane devour from peach cobbler doughnut bread pudding to chicken and waffle sliders (yummmm).
