Being 16, you don’t really know what’s going on with your body. A lot of things are changing hormonally. At one point, I didn’t like the feeling I had when I couldn’t keep up with everyone else [at school]. I was the last person on the stairs going up to the second floor to class or panting because I was so uncomfortable, sweating in between my thighs because they’re rubbing against each other. I didn’t want to do any outdoor activities during recess.
Once the doctors kinda threw up the red flag and said, ‘Hey, she could be having cardiac issues with her blood pressure and potentially, even diabetes,’ it was scary. ‘You gotta do something.’
I was younger so a lot of people want to label it as “baby fat” but it was just fat. A lot of the times, I was just hungry. It was more me eating because it made me feel comfortable and [was] soothing. It took me a nice four or five months to eat right.
I thank Billy Blanks, to be honest, ’cause I used to watch my mom do [Tae Bo]. Behind her back, I was tryna do this stuff and then eventually, I picked up the pace. I was able to condition my body to do it, going from a size 16 to a size 9. [The workout] was 30 minutes a day, using your own body weight and it was really remarkable.
I would love to meet [Blanks] and be like, ‘Thank you ‘cause I don’t know where I would be had I not used your videos.’
