Soul Cycle and Spotify flipped the script on partying norms at Austin’s annual music and interactive festival, South By Southwest.
The daily temptation to get wasted was hard to escape as events like Samsung’s Milk Music Lounge dished out free Micheladas (Mexican cerveza preparada made with beer, lime juice and hot sauce) and Fader Fort by Converse handed festival-goers mixed cocktails with Jack Daniels.
Spotify saved livers, though, by teaming with Soul Cycle to deliver three different classes, scored by live DJ sets. I rode to the sounds of OG producer, Just Blaze, on Friday, March 20 at 9:30am, getting my cycle on to hard-hitting anthems from Jay Z, Drake and Pharrell.
Within an hour, every chin and pair of cheeks (both facial and otherwise) were drenched with sweat. As the instructor incorporated ab-tightening exercises and weight lifting into the routine, the ride moved to the beat of Blaze’s mix in harmony, providing that live show flair to keep the workout party popping. Safe to say, Spotify’s Soul Cycle session not only revived this SXSWee’s zapped energy but provided a necessary mental break from the chaos that dominated Austin.
