The Co-Sign: UConn’s Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis On Pool Workouts

UConn forward Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis puts in overtime when it comes to her hoop dreams. As a seventh grader, she would rise and grind at 5 a.m. to work on her daily goal of 500 shots.

These days, the senior Huskie is looking to a brighter future after the Seattle Storm chose her as the third overall pick at last week’s WNBA Draft. In order to get major league ready, Mosqueda-Lewis says her favorite sweat sessions happen in the pool.

“I think the workouts that are awesome and more helpful than people realize are pool workouts,” she said. “I think they’re the best. You don’t realize how hard you’re working because you’re in water. It’s a different kind of workout. You’re not pounding on your legs and you’re also getting in good shape.”

Underwater fitness is no new phenomenon. Celebs, like Mariah Carey, swear by water aerobics to lose inches. Even if you don’t have the wingspan like Michael Phelps, try these three pool exercises the next time you take a dip. No laps required.
