This Woman’s Work: Ashley Graham’s Curvy Fit Moves

Supermodel and body positive champion Ashley Graham dedicates much of her Instagram feed to not only documenting her runway adventures, but also the fitness routines that keep her stunting.

The IMG Models signee, who was the first size-16 model to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated‘s Swimsuit issue last year, captures her early-morning workouts while also flaunting her cellulite, as she did in a recent post from Manila, Philippines, where she was promoting the Miss Universe competition. 

“I workout. I do my best to eat well. I love the skin I’m in. And I’m not ashamed of a few lumps, bumps or cellulite.. and you shouldn’t be either,” she wrote in the caption along with the hashtags “#beautybeyondsize” and “#lovetheskinyourein.” 

Beyond loving her thigh gaps and sipping on wine in countries across the globe, here are other workout gems her sweat. picked up from the body activist’s IG below. 

Kickstart the day with a workout

After hopping off the plane and landing in the Philippines, Graham shared a flick from her early morning sweat session: “#ManilaCrew off the ✈️ straight to πŸ’ͺπŸ½πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸ‘ŠπŸ½ #jetlagisforamateurs #6amworkout #curvyfit.”

A.M. workouts can boost your metabolic rate and are more likely going to help you stick to a routine since there are less distractions keeping you from the gym once you rise and grind. It also provides a clear mind and a feeling of accomplishment before you head to school or work. 

Add weights to maximize your moves

Graham’s trainer, Dawin PeΓ±a, upped the ante for her squats by hanging kettlebells for a deeper burn.

Balance on Bosu balls

The key to life and an intense workout is balance. Graham balances on one leg while tapping both the edge of the ball and the bottom of her sneaker before coming to a standing position on a Bosu ball. She assures, “Looks complicated, but if I can do it so can you!”

Bonus: A motivating gym soundtrack (Graham’s choice is Demi Lovato’s “Confident”) will also make for a flawless workout.

Lift your friends up (literally)

Graham tagged in trainer Morit Summers to promote the gym-to-swim collection from Swimsuits For All by lifting her off the ground. For those who may be weightlifting newbs, start out with a strength training guide so that you could work to hoist your besties for exercise in due time. 

Bands a make you sweat

Prepare for your imaginary lingerie runway show by incorporating resistance bands into your strength training. Graham burns her thighs while working up a sweat by putting a resistance band around her waist as she performs a side running drill.

Pack portable workouts

This cardio-blasting routine from Graham is perfect for jet-setting gym junkies and requires minimal equipment. The model hits jumping jacks before grabbing the medicine ball for a series of lift-and-chops. She also deepens her squats with a resistance band, runs up and down stairs and does bicep curls with weights.

Reward yourself with a cheat day (or snack)
